Red Horse Training Equestrian Lessons
Hunter Jumper Equitation Eventing Dressage
Maybe one of the best kept secrets in Louisville is the Red Horse Training English Lesson program. For years we have not marketed our Hunter-Jumper program but allowed it to slowly grow and build with riders wanting to try other disciplines beyond Western. Today we have a strong English Lesson Program with show quality ponies, horses available for lease and for lessons, and a show team that travels monthly to shows!
Here are some frequently asked questions that can help you decide if Red Horse is right for you
1. What makes Red Horse different from other Lesson Barns?
At Red Horse Training we offer a goal oriented program. No matter if your six years old or sixty years old, we like to set attainable goals for 60 days - 90 days - and yearly. Whether its learning to canter, attending your first show, or moving up a level, we want to work with you to help you attain your goal and have fun at the same time.
HORSEMANSHIP - Our goal is not to create RIDERS but to create HORSEMEN. Through lessons and mini-clinics we teach our students how to actively think while riding, tacking up, and properly caring for their mount. Throughout the years we've found that most lesson barns talk about heels down and inside leg but never give the student the reasons why. Here at Red Horse, we explain the REASONS WHY during every lesson.
2. Do you provide lesson horses?
YES! We have English lesson horses and ponies that students can train up to 3'6. All of our horses and ponies are also available for Lease and can be used at Horse Shows.
3. What are my Horse showing options if I choose to show?
We are a no pressure to show riding facility. Horse showing is an option and we do attend monthly Hunter-Jumper Shows within the Kentucky Hunter-Jumper Association. Horses and show tack are provided. We also attend Hunter-paces, mini-trials, 4H district & State, as well as local events.
Horse Showing can be affordable and we make sure everyone who wants to show gets the opportunity.
4. Can I haul in my horse for lessons?
YES! We encourage riders who have their own horses to haul in for group or private lessons. We offer half day & full day riding clinics for riders hauling in from out of town and we also welcome outside riders to show with us! Feel confident riding at home but need that extra help at the shows? We are more than happy to include you!
5. What should I bring/wear to my English Riding Lessons?
We recommend long pants with some stretch and either boots with a 2 in maximum heel, paddock boots with chaps, or tall boots. Helmets are provided (we do not allow bike helmets).
6. I'm currently taking lessons at another farm but I feel stuck and I'm not making any progress. Should I just give up? Or try more lessons?
We get calls about this all the time from English and Western Students! Sometimes having a new set of eyes to look at a problem can help solve the problem or a different way of teaching may make more sense to you. We train all our lesson horses and we match personalities and skill levels so you can have the most beneficial ride. We are not afraid to push you to the next level if you need it!
